Kohl's Department Stores Anticipates Hiring More than 40,000 Associates for Holiday Season

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., – Kohl's Department Stores (NYSE:KSS)  announced it anticipates hiring more than 40,000 associates this holiday season, a more than 20 percent increase over last year, at stores, distribution centers and credit operations nationwide to ensure Kohl's shoppers continue to receive excellent customer service throughout the season. In 2009, Kohl's hired more than 33,000 seasonal associates nationwide.

"We know our customers shop Kohl's for the whole experience – which includes great brands at exceptional values and excellent customer service from our associates," said John Worthington, Kohl's senior executive vice president. "This holiday, we're pleased to create tens of thousands of jobs across the country to serve our customers during this exciting time of year."

Kohl's commitment to customer service has been recognized by the National Retail Federation* for the past five years on its list of retailers that offer the best customer service. In addition, Kohl's has ranked among the top retailers in the University of Michigan's** customer satisfaction survey for eight consecutive years.

Kohl's anticipates hiring an average of 35 associates per store for the holiday season to support 1,089 stores that Kohl's operates in 49 states; and the company anticipates hiring 2,200 and 60 associates at distribution centers and credit operations respectively, for a total of 40,375 associates. Last year, Kohl's hired an average of 30 associates per store to support 1,059 stores at that time, plus an additional 1,500 and 40 associates at distribution centers and credit operations respectively, for a total of 33,310 associates. Hiring levels will vary depending on the business needs of each facility.

Seasonal associates can work anywhere from a few hours to more than 20 hours per week. Typical store jobs include unloading trucks, freight processing, stocking and cash register duties. Hiring began this month, and most jobs will be filled by mid-November. Holiday positions are also being filled at the company's distribution centers, where hiring began in August.
