PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -  A debate in Phenix City that has been going on for nearly a month now, comes to a close as the school board responds to the city council's allegations against them.

Phenix City Mayor Sonny Coulter wanted to hold a meeting with the school board.  That was never set up, but Superintendent Dr. Larry DiChiara says they will meet with council just on different terms, "As long as we meet in an open session with all the folks from city council and the school board, we'll be glad to meet at any time. We are going to try and arrange that but it won't be to discuss any of these allegations. That's not their authority and we're not going to discuss that with them."

Those seven allegations, including possible ethics violations and nepotism, were highlighted by council member Jimmy Wetzel at last week's council meeting.

"They were addressed by this board, which is the authority to do so, and some were addressed by the Ethics Commission and those were cleared," explained DiChiara.

So after a special called school board meeting Monday afternoon, Dr. DiChiara read his response to some of the shocking allegations, "Any insinuation that we were not holding the highest of standards is very problematic with all of us and that's why we felt like we should give a response."

And both parties agree this should bring an end to the ongoing feud.

DiChiara added, "After this we're not going to debate this in public, but we will give our response and that'll be it from our standpoint."
