Auburn Uni. launches Beat Bama Food Drive

AUBURN – The Committee of 19, Auburn University's leadership team for the War on Hunger, has designated Oct. 11-16 as Hunger Awareness Week at Auburn University.

This annual weeklong event highlights the plight of the one billion chronically hungry people throughout the developing world and draws attention to the needs of individuals and families in the local community through events sponsored by various colleges and schools at Auburn.

The public is encouraged to help Beat Bama in this friendly competition and to help the needy in our community by contributing to the Food Drive.

Donations can be made online at Last year, Auburn collected 164,034 pounds of food. Auburn has won nine of the last 16 food drives.

The SGA accepts non-perishable food or monetary donations.

Donations can be made at the SGA office, through the online site and also at the East Alabama Food Bank at 375 Industry Drive.

Hunger Awareness Week ends on Saturday, Oct. 16, on World Food Day. Committee of 19 representatives will be recognized on the football field at halftime during the Auburn vs. Arkansas football game.
