AMERICUS, GA (WTVM) -  Americus Police are calling it a horrible accident- the drowning of a three-year-old girl in her grandmother's pool.

It happened at a home on Wildwood Circle in Americus Tuesday.

Police say the toddler was visiting her grandmother with her family from Atlanta and had been out walking in the neighborhood with her mother and two siblings.

According to the Americus Police Chief James Green, her mother dropped her off at the house with her grandmother and kept walking with her other children.

Several minutes later, her grandmother found the little girl in the pool, dove in and tried to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"It's a very tragic accident. There's no indication of any foul play or any inappropriate conduct or anything like that," Chief Green said.

A autopsy is being performed. Green says that is standard procedure in the death of a child.
