COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A 17-year-old girl is recovering after Columbus Police say she was hit by a car walking to school Thursday morning.

It happened at the corner of Ticknor Drive and Torch Hill Road.

Major Julius Graham, who oversees the department's Patrol Division, says it appears the teen stepped off the curb into the path of an oncoming car.

Reports indicate the collision forced her up onto the hood of the car and back onto the pavement.

She was taken to the Medical Center and was treated and released Thursday afternoon.

Police say this was not a hit and run and at this point, the driver of the car has not been charged with anything because it does not appear to be a violation on their part.

The investigation continues.
