OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -Forty-four-year-old Rodney Thompson, from Opelika, was arrested Wednesday in Roanoke, AL after allegedly kidnapping his wife.
Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says Thompson's wife was on her way to work when things took a terrible turn. "She pulled up to a stop sign near her residence and Mr. Thompson approached her from the woods with a shotgun, forced her over and commanded the car."
Thompson began on Highway 431 in Lee County, but where he was taking her is unclear.
Lee County deputies say he drove close to Anniston, AL before turning around, heading to Roanoke.
"He stopped and Ms. Thompson was able to go into a fast food restaurant in the area and alert the employees that she was being held at gunpoint by her husband." Said Sheriff Jones.
Roanoke police stopped the car after employees at Jack's called for help.
And they found a shotgun plus a pair of handcuffs on Thompson. He's charged with kidnapping in the 1st degree.
Sheriff Jones says taking a family member against their will or harming them is still a crime.
"It's a crime we're saying it's a crime and the evidence will support that and it will support that."
