Columbus man hit with shrapnel while unloading gun

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus man is recovering after a close call while cleaning his gun.

Officers were called to this home on Hilyer Drive off Macon Road Saturday afternoon for an accidental shooting.

Officials say a man was unloading his gun and getting ready to clean it when it fired.

The bullet hit the ground in front of him and the shrapnel came back and hit him in the eye.

He was taken the Medical Center for treatment.
