SC fugitive arrested in Phenix City, AL

LEE COUNTY, AL -  On October 31, 2010, at approximately 8:48 AM/CST, the Phenix City Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to a panic alarm at the BP Gas Station located in Pierce Crossing located at the intersection of Summerville Road and Pierce Road Phenix City, Lee County, Alabama. 

According to the caller, there was a male subject in their store parking lot that they believed was possibly wanted for a murder that had occurred in South Carolina.  Law enforcement from both agencies arrived at the business and made contact with an individual who was later identified as Randal William Benton (37), of Summerville, South Carolina.

A computer records check revealed that the state of South Carolina had an outstanding murder warrant  for Benton's arrest. 

Lee County Deputies placed Benton under arrest for being a Fugitive From Justice.

According to the South Carolina authorities, Benton was wanted in connection with an October 30, 2010, 10:58 PM/CST, murder of  his wife Treva Dawn Benton (37), also from Summerville, South Carolina. 

The two were separated and in the process of getting a divorce.  South Carolina authorities reported that Ms. Benton was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot a local business while witnesses were present.

Randal William Benton is currently being held in the Lee County Detention Facility without bond and is awaiting extradition back to the state of South Carolina to face his Murder charge.
