COLUMBUS, GA (WXTX) - Northside Senior, Matthew Rossi, has been invited to the POWER SHOWCASE in Arizona.  Below is fundraising letter.  If you would like to donate email:

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know of an invitation I recently received to participate in the 2010 POWER  SHOWCASE International High School Home Run Derby to be held at Chase Field – home of the Arizona Diamondbacks – in Phoenix, Arizona, December 28-30.  This event seeks to celebrate one of the finest moments in sports, the Home Run, while providing a platform for the top high school power hitting prospects to demonstrate their baseball skills in a Major League Stadium.

One of the neat things about this showcase is that the organizers have partnered with Make A Wish Foundation of Arizona in program they call, "Home Runs that Help." Home Runs that help partners each POWER SHOWCASE participant with a baseball fan from his local area who is suffering from a life-threatening medical condition. I am partnering with Coach Jeremy Williams, the Greenville High School head football coach who is suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.  Coach Williams has been a big supporter of mine and I have always had tremendous respect for him, especially as he has battled this serious disease.

All of the home runs I hit will be dedicated to Coach Williams. The first home run ball I hit will be signed and presented to Coach Williams when I return. Coach Williams will be able to watch the event live on the POWER SHOWCASE website and hear his named mentioned by the POWER SHOWCASE announcer and see his photo on the JumboTron at Chase Field when I'm hitting.

You can learn a lot more about the POWER SHOWCASE by visiting Bryce Harper, this year's #1 draft pick, participated in this event in 2008 and hit a home run 502 feet. Last year, Travis Harrison from Tustin, California launched one 504 feet and now holds the record. So I know what I have to beat.

The POWER SHOWCASE costs $1,200 to participate. My dad has committed to paying ½ that cost as well as the cost of airfare and a hotel.  He has challenged me to raise at least $600 to go toward the cost. So I'm asking you to consider sponsoring me on this trip.  Any amount will help and if you are unable to do so at this time, I certainly understand. You can actually watch the event live by going to the website listed above.

I appreciate your support.
