VALLEY, AL (WTVM) - Police officials say a man and woman have admitted to a murder in Valley.

John Limes and Leslie King were captured in Phenix City Wednesday near the Pizza Hut on Highway 280.

The duo was wanted in connection with the Tuesday murder of Kathlene Landino.

Valley Police officials say Landino, 59, was found dead on the floor of her home by her son, just inches from the front door. [Read: Valley woman found dead in home, suspects on the run]

According to investigators, Landino had severe trauma to her head and objects were thrown all around her, suggesting she fought for her life. Plus, there was strong gas odor consuming the house.

Officials tell WTVM the suspects tried to ignite the house on fire by leaking gas from space heaters to cover up all evidence.

Before Crime Scene Investigators could come in, fire officials had to clear all gases from the house.

Investigators with the Valley Police Department say several items of evidence were found on the pair and in their car when they were arrested.

Limes and King were transported to the Russell County Jail and according to authorities King gave a full confession concerning her part in killing Landino, who is her former mother-in-law.

King is now charged with murder during a robbery, which is considered a capital offense.  She is currently being held in the Chambers County Detention Facility.

After being booked in the Russell County Jail on a probation violation, John Limes was later transferred to the Valley Police Department where he was interviewed by investigators who say he also gave officers a full confession of his involvement in Landino's murder.

Limes has been charged with Murder During Robbery 1st Degree. He is also being held in the Chambers County Detention Facility.

The Valley Police Department has not shed any light on a possible motive in the case.
