COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Less than 17 hours after shooting his wife in the chest, Columbus police say 34 year old Kerry Coppins turns himself in.
Police say Coppins shot his wife in the chest during an argument around 6 o'clock Saturday morning. Around 10:45 p.m. Coppins walked into the Columbus Police Department and turned himself in to authorities.
Kerry Coppins is charged with aggravated assault and police say possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime could be added to his charges.
Investigators tell News Leader Nine Coppins shot his 32-year-old wife with a pistol while she sat in her car outside of their North Columbus home on 53rd Street.
Officials say Coppins was angry that his wife had stayed out all night and police reports indicate both had been drinking. Reports also state children were present when the shooting occurred.
Coppins' wife managed to drive herself to the Medical Center and she is currently listed in unstable condition.
