Auburn to play for it all; Bama to Capital One, Troy to New Orleans

It's official: Title-game first-timers No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Oregon meet in Glendale, Ariz. for the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game on Jan. 10, 2011.

Auburn quarterback Cam Newton will most likely be a Heisman Trophy winner by the time he gets to Arizona. It's just as likely unanswered questions about an NCAA investigation into his recruitment will still be following him.

On the field, Newton has been peerless, accounting for 50 touchdowns. He threw for four and ran for two in Auburn's 56-17demolition of South Carolina last Saturday, the most lopsided Southeastern Conference Championship Game in history.

Auburn's last national championship came in 1957.

Oregon has never won a national title. Heisman hopeful LaMichael James and the Ducks lead the nation in scoring.

No. 16 Alabama got a bid to play Michigan State at the Capital One Bowl in Orlando on New Year's Day at noon.  Bama coach Nick Saban used to coach the Spartans, who finished with 11 wins this year and ranked No. 7 in the nation.

Troy, which won the Sun Belt Conference for the fifth straight time, will play Ohio, the Mid-America Conference champions in the New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 18.
