Florida football coach Meyer resigns

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -  Calling his decision a difficult one, Urban Meyer is stepping down as football coach at Florida after the team's appearance in the Outback Bowl.

Meyer led the Gators to two national titles but began to show the strain of his high-profile job last season when he briefly quit for health reasons before deciding to return.

In a statement released by the university, Meyer says "it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field."
