AL Legislature resumes special session on ethics

MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) - The Alabama Legislature is returning to Montgomery for the final stretch of the special session on ethics called by Gov. Bob Riley.

The House Ethics Committee will consider four bills Monday that have already been approved by the Senate. Riley is trying to get the committee to strengthen one bill that he said had a loophole put in it by the Senate. The bill was changed it to ban lobbyists from entertaining public officials, but it allows the people who hire lobbyists to spend any amount they want.

The Senate Ethics Committee is also meeting Monday to consider three bills that passed the House largely like Riley wanted them.

At that pace, the special session could end Tuesday.
