AL legislature ethics reform special session could end Tuesday

MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) - The Alabama Legislature is returning for what could be the final day of its special session on ethics, with all the governor's proposals in position for passage.

The House is slated to vote on bills that would end payroll deductions for public employees to support lobbying groups and that would stop lobbyists for paying for entertainment for public officials. Both bills were approved by a House committee Monday.

The Senate will consider bills to ban the transfer of money between political action committees and prohibit "pass-through" pork from being hidden in the state budgets. Senate committees voted for the bills Monday.

Gov. Bob Riley says the Legislature is closer than ever before to enacting laws that will change Alabama forever.
