Man who escaped from jail 18 years ago caught

ATLANTA (AP) - The U.S. Marshals Service has arrested a 61-year-old man authorities say escaped from federal prison and evaded capture for 18 years.

The Marshals Service says Roy Jones was sentenced in 1991 to 60 months in prison on drug charges in Pittsburgh. He arrived at the federal prison camp at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery in February 1992 and escaped in September 1992.

The Marshals Service in Montgomery on Friday determined that Jones had been sent to prison under the alias Ralph Jones. On Friday, they determined he was living in Riverdale, south of Atlanta, under his real name.

They gave that info to the Marshals office in Atlanta, which caught him. Jones was scheduled for a first appearance before a federal judge in Atlanta Monday.
