Firefighter charged in NW GA fires

LAFAYETTE, Ga. (AP) - Police say a volunteer firefighter in LaFayette has been charged with arson in connection with 20 fires over the past five years.

LaFayette Police Chief Tommy Freeman said Tuesday evening that an arrest has been made.

Police investigated two fires they say were set within an hour of each other on Dec. 6, leading up to the arrest.

Freeman says a news conference will be held Wednesday and the name of the person arrested will be revealed at that time. He confirmed on Tuesday that the person arrested is a volunteer firefighter.
