COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - New unemployment numbers are out for Metro Columbus. According to the Georgia Department of Labor. The unemployment rate for November increased to 9.6%. That's up from 9% in October.
The number of unemployed workers in the area increased to 12,248, up 844 from 11,404.
Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the department is currently processing extended benefit claims for those who qualify under recent legislation. Those benefits are extended until December 31, 2011.
The state's unemployment rate rose to 10.1% in November.
