Unemployment grows in Ga. metro areas

ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Department of Labor says the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Atlanta increased to 10.3% in November, up seven-tenths of a percentage point from 9.6% in October.

Among Georgia's metro areas, Dalton showed an unemployment rate of 13.2%, an increase of 1.7% from a month earlier.

The figures were reported early Wednesday. The department reported earlier that Georgia's unemployment rate for November was 10.1%, up from 9.8% in October.

In other metro areas, the rate in Columbus is reported at 9.6%, up from 9%; in Savannah, the rate for November was 8.9%, up from 8.3%; Augusta's rate is reported at 9.1%, up from 8.5%, and Athens was at 7.6%, up from 7.2%.
