COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus man is facing charges after police say he attacked a couple with a baseball bat downtown.

Police say the victims, a 25-year-old Phenix City man and his wife, were in their car in the Regions Bank parking lot around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. Officials believe they just visited the ATM.

Suddenly, the couple says 31-year-old Rickey Miles came up to their car, pulled a mask over his face and shattered the windows with a baseball bat.

Miles demanded money, according to police, shattered the windshield and struck the 25-year-old man in the knee with the bat.

The couple managed to drive away and found a patrol officer in a nearby gas station.

Officers found Miles a few blocks away from the bank, hiding in the 1300 block of 2nd Avenue.

He was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property and Obstruction.

Miles is in the Muscogee County Jail.
