COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- A quick stop at the ATM Wednesday morning turned into one of the most terrifying encounters 25 year-old Jeremy Velazquez has ever experienced.

"He came around the corner pointed the bat straight at me and said give me all your money," Jeremy Velazquez said.

"He swung that bat as hard as he possibly could and busted out the driver-side window, he hit it again right here and he pulled the door open while I was trying to get the car cranked," Velazquez said.

While shielding his wife who was sitting in the passenger seat, Velazquez started the car. During his struggle with the suspect the car was thrown into neutral and rolled backwards. Velazquez says he was hit in his knee with the baseball bat.

"By the time the car gets back here and he gets it put in drive he starts busting out the front wind shield right here, he hits it twice," Velazquez said.

With the car in drive Velazquez and his wife speeds away leaving the suspect in the parking lot. They went to a nearby gas station where they found a police officer. Not long after police arrested 31-year old Ricky Miles. He was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage to Property and Obstruction. As for Velazquez, he says this experience has taught him a valuable lesson.

"Don't sit somewhere by yourself especially during the holidays, everybody is trying to get something extra," Velazquez said.
