COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Police captured an 18-year-old Columbus man after a car chase.

Just after 2:30 Monday morning a Columbus police officer saw a truck on Veteran's Parkway with no headlights on.

The officer attempted to stop the truck, but the driver sped away at nearly 60 miles per hour in 35 MPH speed zone. Due to public safety, the officer said in the report he did not attempt to chase after the truck any further.

Ten minutes later the same officer received a call of a hit and run at the entrance sign of Park View Apartments (5575 Armour Road).

Police found the same truck from the earlier incident with damage to the front bumper. Police found the owner of the truck, 18-year-old Jon Austin Hall, who admitted stated, "I am the one who ran from you and I hit the sign." Reports show Hall told police he sped away because he was scared since he didn't have a driver's license.

He was arrested and charged with: leaving a scene, striking a fixed object, fleeing and eluding, tag used with intent to conceal, no headlights and other traffic charges. Damage to the entrance sign is estimated at $5,000.
