Georgia state trooper shot to death

ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia State Patrol says a trooper was shot to death after attempting to make a traffic stop in northwest Atlanta.

The patrol says the officer, identified as 38-year-old Chadwick LeCroy of Marietta, was shot twice in the face Monday night and died while being transported to a hospital.

State Patrol spokesman Mark McDonough says a suspect was later arrested by Atlanta and Cobb County police.

McDonough says LeCroy tried to stop a vehicle, but it crashed after a brief pursuit. He says the trooper and the other driver then had a confrontation, and LeCroy was shot.

Police say the other driver then drove away in the trooper's car and was arrested after he abandoned it several blocks away.

LeCroy is survived by a wife and two sons.
