PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City Police tell News Leader 9 a man wanted for an armed robbery at a tire store turned himself in Wednesday evening.

Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Fretwell was arrested around 4:30 p.m. and is currently being held in the Russell County jail.

His alleged accomplice is already in custody.

The armed robbery occurred earlier this week. On Monday, Phenix City Police got a call from Otto's Tires on Crawford Road saying two men had just robbed the store at gunpoint.

Employees say two white men walked in the store, showed a firearm and demanded money.

When management told the suspects they didn't have any cash, the men took a floor jack from the store and left in an older model Buick.

Police later found and arrested 25-year-old Skylar Cooper, who had outstanding warrants for another crime.

Police say, Fretwell who got away, is no stranger to the law.

In November 2005, he was arrested for possession of cocaine and in June of this year he was charged with the battery and kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend.

Phenix City Police tell us Fretwell could be facing other charges in addition to this week's armed robbery.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
