Downtown Auburn preps for New Year's Eve

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Bars up and down the streets of downtown Auburn were preparing today for the big night, New Years Eve.

Dan Grider, Co-Owner of Skybar, says there really isn't a time of year Auburn isn't fun, "Auburn definitely is a fun place, year round so you know if you don't want to spend a lot of money and deal with all the traveling issues and planes getting off the ground you can stay in Auburn."

Although many students are home for the holidays, sometimes that could be a benefit bringing in completely new crowds.

"There's a lot of people that only come out on New Year's so you always see them and they definitely want to celebrate this time of year." Said Grider.

Adam Herndon with Quixotes adds, "I think the people that are in town working and things like that are looking to go out and have a good time so we'll be open."

Quixotes decided after last year's success on the last day of 2010 to open their bar for this New Year's Eve.

Herndon says, "We decided yesterday that we'll be opening up at 9 tomorrow with a champagne toast at midnight and also a live band."

Live bands, great specials and champagne at midnight seem to be the shared recipe for ringing in the New Year in Auburn. "Everyone that comes will get free party favors, so you'll have hats, tiaras and all the confetti things and then at midnight if you'd like you get complimentary champagne." Said Grider.
