COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A South Columbus business owner refused to be the victim of a burglary this New Year's weekend and took aim at an intruder.

On Sunday night just before 5:00 p.m. Columbus Police officers were called to Top Auto Tech on Benning Drive in reference to a robbery

When they got there, however, they discovered it was actually a burglary in progress and the owner of the business shot the suspect.

Officers found the would-be burglar with a gunshot wound to his leg and being held at gunpoint by the owner.

Officials say the owner was doing work in his garage when he heard noises and was confronted by the burglar. He shot the suspect once in the left leg.

Investigators are not releasing the suspect's name. He is in the hospital and once he is released, he'll be charged with burglary. The owner is not facing charges in the case.
