SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Newcomers to the BCS championship with prolific offenses, No.2 Oregon and top-ranked Auburn have turned the title game into a must-see event.
Even as ticket prices soar into the thousands, though, few people in Phoenix seem to be particularly bowled over.
With no big signs at the airport, no strings of billboards dotting the highway and no overwhelming enthusiasm for the game, it's hard to tell 1 of the major sporting events of the year is about to take place.
Spread out and used to hosting big events - Super Bowls, World Series, national championships - Phoenix is treating what would be a spectacle in most the cities like any other Monday that happens to end with the most important college football game of the season.
