TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's first sanctioned professional boxing matches will be held next month in Tuscaloosa, with a native of the city who won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics the featured attraction.
Deontay Wilder, an unbeaten 6-foot, 7-inch heavyweight, will headline the card on Feb. 19 at Shelton State Community College. T
he Alabama Athletic Commission scheduled the bouts on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Wilder is 14-0 as a professional after winning a bronze medal in Beijing. The commission, authorized in 2009, issued Wilder its first license.
Other potential participants in the Tuscaloosa event have applied for licenses, and about seven bouts are expected.
