AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -  If seeing the National Championship trophy at their local Wal-Mart wasn't enough for Auburn fans, a former tiger football player was down the road signing autographs.

New Orleans Saints fullback Heath Evans was at Best Buy mingling with fans, signing footballs and T-shirts and of course, talking about the Auburn football team.

He said the National title is a special honor for the school, but the Auburn family is what stands out the most.

"We've never had the stellar athletes like Cam Newton and now we're starting to recruit those types of athletes. We've always been the hard-working, blue-collar team that's always had a shot and won games that we probably shouldn't have. But this is a special year and a year that couldn't have ended any better than it did," Evans told News Leader Nine.

Evans played for Auburn from 1998 to 2000 and has been playing in the NFL for the past ten years.
