Gov. Bentley uses Alabama State Bible for oath

MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) - Gov. Robert Bentley has kept alive a state tradition that has that has been around for 158 years.

He chose the Alabama State Bible for his oath of office Monday at the state Capitol.

The state Department of Archives and History says the Bible was purchased by the state in 1853 and has been used for every governor's oath of office since then. It was also used by Jefferson Davis to take the oath of office as president of the Confederacy 150 years ago.
