COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus Police have charged two men with a Labor Day killing.

The murder of 33-year-old Brian Brown on September 3rd  was the first in a string of killings in Columbus over the Labor Day holiday weekend and investigators say all of the cases are now cleared.

Twenty-three-year-old Cordiary Bell and 30-year-old Daniel Wright, both from Columbus, were charged with Brown's murder late Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation has been ongoing and detectives say they gathered enough information and evidence to charge the duo.

Brown was shot in the head and killed in his apartment at the Johnston Mill Lofts downtown.

Columbus investigators say he had an altercation with two men in a breezeway at the complex, went inside, shut the door and was standing against it when the suspects started shooting on the other side. One of the bullets came through the door and hit Brown in the head.

Officials believe the crime was originally intended to be a robbery.

Both Bell and Wright are already in jail on charges unrelated to the murder case. Police say Bell was charged in a shooting on December 4th on Baltic Court and in an armed robbery on November 30th on Chalbena Avenue.

In that case, officials say a woman came home and found her door open.

When she went inside, a gunman waiting for her held her at gunpoint and stole her car. That same car and Bell, according to detectives, were involved in a police chase into Harris County shortly after the robbery.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon at 2 PM.
