Crime Stoppers: Beware of fake door-to-door sales pitches

From Columbus Crime Stoppers

COLUMBUS, GA - Crime Stoppers and the Columbus Police Department are requesting additional information on suspicious activity in your neighborhoods.

ADT Security Systems informed Police on January 13, 2011 and January 18, 2011 that there have been multiple calls from ADT customers about suspicious individuals posing as ADT Sales representatives.

The ADT representative stated that ADT sales representatives are not soliciting in our area. An ADT sales representative will have a visible ID Tag and a business card when they come to your home.

They will produce a business card when speaking with current or prospective customers.

All legitimate solicitors should produce a company identification tag with the solicitors name and a copy of the business license.

Homeowners have reported that there are solicitors knocking on doors, and attempting to sell Insurance and other items.

The solicitors have no ID's or business cards. Columbus Police are asking the citizens to keep a watchful eye out in your neighborhood for any type of suspicious activity, and report the details immediately to Police.

The dispatched Police Officer will investigate the suspect and make the appropriate arrest if needed.

If you have any information concerning any of these suspicious activities, please contact Crime Stoppers at 706-653-3188 or the Columbus Police Department Investigative Unit.

If your information leads to an arrest and indictment, you could receive a reward of up to $1000.00 and you do not have to give your name.
