Columbus neighborhood on edge after drive-by shootings

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)- It was quite a shock for this serene neighborhood, nearby two schools.  Police reports show that neighbors in Clubview Heights and Hilton Woods heard gunshots and found their vehicles damaged by bullets. Columbus police say it happened just after 8:00 PM on Saturday. Three cars reportedly damaged by gunfire.

Danny Neal, father of two young children, says that people in the area need to be cautious.

"It's scary that something like this would happen here, but it really goes to show you that no matter where you are not really free from crime, it can happen to anybody anywhere," Neal said.

Police tell us, they believe the shootings are random acts of violence and that people who live in the area should be on the lookout. They also say that there is no evidence that makes these acts anything more than random.

Neal is making sure it doesn't happen again, as the neighborhood watch captain for this area

"No matters where you are in Columbus you need to be vigilant, you need to be on your guard, and you need to be watching what's going on around you," Neal said.

Two years ago, Neal and other members of the community formed a neighborhood watch group so that when things like last Saturday's shooting happen - they can quickly mobilize.

"The neighbors look out for other neighbors report anything they see and just to be mindful of what's going on in their neighborhoods," Neal said.
