LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Some East Alabama middle school students find themselves victims of a shooting on their school bus.

Approximately 20 students were on the bus at the time of the shooting, one student suffered minor injuries that didn't need medical attention but parents are still concerned.

David Lowe, a parent of a Sanford Middle School student, says although his daughter was not on the bus that was shot, he does still worry why a 13 year old would randomly shoot a BB gun at a school bus knowing the bus was filled with students. "I think it's pretty serious, I think his parents should have been more aware where his gun and those bullets were. He shouldn't had been able to get them."

Sheriff Jones says the bus, nearly full of students had just left the school Monday afternoon taking the kids home for the day. The Lee County Board of Education contacted them to investigate. He says,

One of the buses was traveling on a Lee Road in the Beauregard area, Lee Road 445, and a noise was heard by students on the bus, approximately 20 students on a bus and one of the windows broke."

The shot missed the students, but shattered glass did hit one. "One of the students suffered a minor feed cut to the hand and face area." Said Sheriff Jones

The student who allegedly shot the school bus...was a student at Sanford Middle...David Lowe says he hopes the child knows how lucky he is no one was seriously injured. "I think he probably thought it was funny, it was a joke, that's where my daughter goes to school. I think they just thought it was funny. But it's not."

The suspect is currently in the Lee County Youth Development Center. The case will be heard by the Lee County Juvenile Court where a judge will decide his punishment."
