AUGUSTA - With the start of the regular season less than a week away, the Peach Belt Conference has announced the 2011 baseball preseason All-Conference team. As selected by the league's head coaches, the 12-member team features players from seven PBC member schools.
UNC Pembroke leads the way with three honorees while Columbus State, Georgia College and USC Aiken have two each. Francis Marion, Georgia Southwestern and North Georgia had one player each make the team. The team size was increased from 11 to 12 due to a tie at outfielder
Ryan Lewis is the first of four outfielders named to the preseason team. A junior from Lawrenceville, he hit .357 for Columbus State last season with 61 RBIs, which was second- best on the team and sixth overall in the Peach Belt. He was also ranked sixth in the league with 60 hits and 10th in total bases. Overall, he collected 15 doubles and nine home runs along with 14 stolen bases.
Thomas Campbell was named second-team All-Conference in 2010 as a starter on the Columbus State staff. He finished the season with a 10-2 mark and 3.21 ERA. In 101 innings pitched he struck out 99 batters and was named to the PBC All-Tournament team. A senior from Mt. Airy, Ga., he was fourth in the Peach Belt in ERA and led the conference by holding opponents to a .223 batting average.
