AUGUSTA – The Columbus State women's basketball team handled Augusta State 79-42 Saturday afternoon on the road in Christenberry Fieldhouse.  With the win, CSU improves to 11-7 on the year and 4-5 in Peach Belt action while the Lady Jaguars fall to 6-12 this season and 0-10 in conference play.

Dominique Gilbert and Lauren Matheney scored the first four points of the game before ASU countered with the next four tying the game at 4-4 1:17 into the contest.

From there, the Lady Cougars would go on a 15-1 run over the next six minutes in which six different players scored for the visitors including three-pointers by Tandria Milton, Marah Wright and Baleigh Coley.  During that time, ASU missed all 10 shots from the field and turned the ball over two times.

Augusta State then netted the next six points of the game cutting the lead to 19-11 with just under 11 minutes left in the first half.

That would be as close as they would get the remainder of the game as Columbus State gradually added to their lead.  The Lady Cougars held ASU to just four points the rest of the opening half outscoring them 17-4.  CSU shot 44.7% (17-for-38) from the field including 6-for-9 from downtown in the first half to build a 26 point lead (41-15) after 20 minutes of action.

Through the opening five and a half minutes of play in the second half, CSU was able to continue to extend their lead as they went ahead by 32 points (54-22) with 14:27 left in the contest.

Blaire Egardo hit a three-pointer on Augusta State's next possession to bring the deficit back below 30 points where it would hold for the next seven minutes.

Ahead 60-33, Columbus State went on a 14-1 run giving them their largest lead of the game (74-44) with 3:36 to go in the game.  CSU scored the final 12 points during that spurt including seven by Asha Alexander.

Four Lady Cougars reached double figures led by Wright's game high 14 points.  Gilbert recorded another double-double netting 10 points and grabbing a game high 12 rebounds.  Carrie Washington and Marina DeFoor also registered eight rebounds each.  CSU dominated the glass out-rebounding Augusta State 61-38.  Columbus State shot 43.4% (33-for-76) from the field including a season best 52.9% (9-for-17) from three-point range.

Egardo led the Lady Jaguars with eight points while Candace Foster and Jarquella Woods also chipped in with six points apiece.  ASU shot just 25% (18-for-72) from the field, the lowest by a CSU opponent this season.
