Deaths from tree stand falls at all-time high

TALLADEGA, AL (AP) - Alabama authorities say the state has recorded its highest number of deaths from hunters falling from tree stands.

Ray Metzler, hunter education program coordinator for the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, said there have been 14 tree stand accidents so far during this deer hunting season. The season comes to a close on Wednesday.

Four of the accidents resulted in the death of the hunter.

Metzler says that is the highest number of such deaths ever recorded in Alabama.

He said he isn't sure why the number of deaths is up over previous years.
