Columbus residents can sign up cell phones for city alerts

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)  - When a gunman fired at officers and fled into the woods, thousands throughout Columbus were put on high alert.

Automatic phone calls went throughout the city's emergency notification system.

Residents with cell phones did not get the message.

Mayor Teresa Tomlinson says mobile users will have to subscribe for the service.
