VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) - A Valdosta police officer is recovering after he was shot in the hand while serving a drug warrant.
Valdosta police say Detective Jeremy Duncan was shot Friday as drug agents served a warrant on a suspected drug dealer. Police Lt. Aaron Kirk says the man police were trying to arrest opened fire as soon as officers entered his home.
WALB-TV reports that Duncan was treated for his gunshot wound a local hospital and then released.
Police arrested 27-year-old Javon McCloud and charged him aggravated assault on a police officer. He's also charged with possession of marijuana and ecstasy with intent to distribute.
Police say Duncan is the first Valdosta officer to get shot in the line of duty since 2008.
