PHENIX CITY, AL (WXTX) - Phenix City Police need your help solving the city's first murder of the year.

Early Sunday morning, police were called to a home on Dillingham Street where a body was discovered inside.

Phenix City police reports show two women stopped by the home late Saturday night, into Sunday morning, and discovered the body of 35-year-old Timothy Turman. This discovery launched an investigation into the city's first murder of the year.

Although no neighbors can confirm hearing any unusual noises coming from this home Saturday night,  Phenix City police say Turman, of Columbus, was shot inside.

Capt. Frank Ivery said, "The subject had been shot several times and that was the only person at the house at that time. We believe a family member was notified about the shooting and in turn contacted the police department."

Police would not say whether the shooting was a result of a robbery, but reports indicate narcotics were found inside the home and on Turman's body.

"At this time we aren't sure the of nature that lead to this homicide," Ivey stated.

One neighbor, who wanted to keep her identity hidden, told News Leader Nine suspicious behavior does take place at all hours of the night at the house, "It makes me feel very uncomfortable because I have two young grand kids that I babysit in the evenings and this is not a nice environment for them to be around this type of activity."

She says although she didn't know the victim personally, she feels sorry for what happened, "It's sad to hear about this situation."

Ivey said police are hoping to have more answers to the city's first murder of 2011, "Right now there are no known subjects or witnesses to this event. This case continues to be investigated."

If you have any information on this murder or any incidents that could have lead to it Phenix City Police ask that you call them at (334)298-0611.
