Potential winter storm, Muscogee Co. added to advisory

(WTVM) - Another winter storm out in the southern Plains is advancing east and will impact our area late Wednesday.

Scattered showers should develop late and mix with snow before ending, mainly for the northern half of the Chattahoochee Valley.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for five of our East Alabama counties:

  • Chambers County, AL
  • Lee County, AL
  • Macon County, AL
  • Randolph County, AL
  • Tallapoosa County, AL

The winter storm warning will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. this evening until 6:00 a.m. CST Thursday. Light snow accumulations of half an inch to 2 inches are possible in these areas.  A mixture of rain and snow will likely transition to all snow Wednesday evening. The snow is expected to taper off after midnight. Travel conditions could become hazardous.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until noon Thursday for five counties in West Georgia:

  • Muscogee County, GA
  • Harris County, GA
  • Troup County, GA
  • Talbot County, GA
  • Taylor County, GA
  • Upson County, GA
  • Meriwether County, GA

Light snow accumulations of a dusting to an inch are possible in these areas overnight with best chances further north. Roads may be slick if snow accumulates. Bridges and overpasses will become especially hazardous if this is to happen.

Russell County is not included in either the watch or the advisory.
