Double Churches Middle student wins spelling bee

From the Muscogee County School District

COLUMBUS, GA - Norjuan Johnson, a seventh-grade student at Double Churches Middle, wins the Muscogee County School District (MCSD) Spelling Bee!

School winners competing from elementary and middle schools across the district were proudly supported by parents, friends, teachers, and administrators at the Columbus Museum Wednesday.

Second-place honors went to Destini Wright, a fifth-grader at Gentian Elementary, and third-place to Kailin Kegler, a fifth-grader at Reese Road Elementary.  Dr. Susan Andrews, Superintendent, presented the trophies to the three winners.

The first place winner, Norjuan, also won a dictionary!  Johnson won the competition after he spelled the word "abyss" correctly.

The event is sponsored by the Muscogee Association of Educators (MAE) and MCSD.  Coordinators for the event from MAE were Albert Barnes and Eric Jones; Lisa Roberts was the coordinator for MCSD.

Rules governing the contest are provided by the MAE and the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE).  The word list was compiled by staff members of MCSD Elementary and Secondary Education Departments.
