Golf Trail tops list of Alabama paid attractions

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail ranked as Alabama's number one paid attraction for 2010.

The Alabama Tourism Department said 541,000 golfers played the trail last year. That put it slightly ahead of the 540,000 people who visited the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville.

The Birmingham Zoo was third with more than 431,000 visitors and the McWane Science Center in Birmingham was fourth with nearly 389,000 visitors. The Huntsville Botanical Garden finished fifth with 300,000.

The department said the Birmingham Botanical Garden was Alabama's most visited free attraction with 350,000 people. The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts came in second with more than 150,000. The state Capitol was third with more than 118,000.
