COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Construction managers for the new George Washington Carver High School in Columbus said the project is right on schedule.  Demolition on the school started in August of 2010.  The construction managers for the project told News Leader Nine the new school should be complete in August of 2012 just in time for classes to start.

Construction managers met with the public to explain to them the progress of the new high school as well as lay out a plan for traffic in and out of the community.

Architects for the school said that the new school will have new technology such as censored lights and high efficiency boilers to go green.  The school will also have new practice football fields, baseball and softball fields, and a new gym facility with locker rooms.

Vocational classroom for classes like metals are in the plans for the school along with a new performing art theater that would hold almost 700 students.

The new school is going on the old Carver High site.  For now, the Carver High students are having classes at Baker Middle School.
