Abbeville hoops player dies from crash injuries

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A 17-year-old basketball player at Abbeville High School in southeast Alabama has died after being injured in a single-vehicle accident.

State troopers said Quintavious "Quin" Sampson died Tuesday at a Dothan hospital after being injured on Friday when he was a passenger in a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria that ran off Henry County Road 107 and struck a tree. Troopers said two other Abbeville players - 17-year-old Cordarius Savon King and 16-year-old Siran King - suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

Abbeville Coach Moses Knight told The Dothan Eagle that Sampson was the leading scorer on the team and had a great personality.

Principal Dale Barnes said flags at the school would fly at half staff for several days in honor of Sampson.
