LOACHAPOKA, AL (WTVM) -  Newly elected Mayor Jim Grout only won tonight  by just 4 votes. Voter turnout was very low, only 51 voters came out, that's out of 135 registered Loachapoka voters.

Poll workers said they were a little disappointed but understood since it had been 15 or 16 years since the town held an election for mayor.

Both candidates Jim Grout and Terry Woodall currently serve as City Council members for the town, Mayor Grout is chairman. Andy Householder, a voter who came out to the polling location, said the race was close because both were well known, "they already knew what's going on as far as they town business, what the role and responsibilities are as a mayor, they're ready to jump right in. I think it's important to the city, we've got a lot of things that we want to do and no body to really take direction from at this point so yes it's going to be really good to get someone in there."

The seat for mayor had been vacant for 8 months after the May 4th passing of Former Mayor Larry Wayne Justice.
