Police: Duo caught after crime spree

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus Police say two local men have been caught after going on a violent crime spree.

Omarkeon Kelley, 21, and Ormond Kirkland, 17 have been connected to a series of armed robberies.

Investigators say the robbed the Rooster's Package Store on Macon Road on September 17, 2010 armed with shotguns and assaulted the owner.

Several days later, on September 22, 2010, police say the tried to rob the same liquor store again and were unsuccessful. Instead, officers tell WTVM they robbed the Mr. B's Package Store on 13th Street, exchanging gunfire with officers who pulled up at the scene. They managed to get away and no one was injured.

Kirkland also faces charges of Theft by Taking a Motor Vehicle, Burglary and Obstruction. Police say he stole a van last summer, broke into a house on Ridgeview Road and ran from officers when they tried to serve warrants on him.

Both men were arrested February 23rd.

Both suspects have pleaded not guilty to four armed robbery charges as well as aggravated assault and weapons charges.
