State: Columbus adds 400 jobs

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Data released by the Georgia Department of Labor shows that the metro Columbus area has gained 400 jobs over the past year.

The data released this week by the Georgia Department of Labor show that the west Georgia city's work force in January grew to 115,800 despite high unemployement rates across the state that have hovered around 10 percent.

Becca Hardin of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce said the figures validate some of the recent economic growth in the city. She said the data does not include a recent announcement by aerospace firm Pratt & Whitney that will add another 180 jobs at its Columbus plant.
