2 die in small plane crash south of Atlanta

HAMPTON, GA (AP) - Federal investigators are trying to determine the cause of a plane crash that killed two Atlanta-area men near Tara Field in Henry County.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane crashed in the woods in Hampton late Tuesday morning.

She says the twin-engine Dehavilland DHC-6-100 was registered to Desert Sand Aircraft Leasing Co. of Carson City, Nev.

Officials say the two people aboard, 37-year-old Bryan Hedrick of Roswell and 48-year-old Oriel Roberts of Hampton, both died in the crash. They say Hedrick was piloting the plane.

WSB Radio reports that the aircraft was used for skydiving. They say workers reported that the plane was based in Texas and was at Tara Field for maintenance.

Workers told WSB Radio that Hedrick and Roberts were doing short, routine post-maintenance flight runs.
