Auburn coach hopes debut season laid foundation

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Tony Barbee is hoping his debut season at Auburn laid the foundation for better things to come.

The often-outmanned Tigers finished up 11-20 after a lopsided loss to Georgia in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament on Thursday.

But Barbee cites his team's four double-digit comeback wins, including two to finish the regular season, as signs of his young team's toughness and progress. He says his players also "stayed together all season long."

Plus, every player is slated to return next season. They'll be joined by two major conference transfers and guard Frankie Sullivan, who missed virtually all of the season following knee surgery.

Barbee also signed 2 of the nation's top 100-rated prospects in the fall.
